The examinacion of Gerrott ffitzgerrald nowe of ffecullan in the County of Kylldare Gentleman Adged 37 yeares or thereabouts taken before vs Sir Robert Meredith knight and Richard Teighe of the Citty of Dublin Esquier the 19th day of January 1652.
Whoe beinge duely sworne, and examined saith That in the yeare 1641 (beinge the first yeare of the rebellion) this examynant was servant vnto the Lady Cooley of Castle Carbery in the County of Kylldare <A> And that on the Last day of Aprill 1642, one Lewis Moore brother to Roger Moore of Ballanah, of the sayd County Kylldare, appeared in the head of an Armey, which he Comanded in Cheife and which were in number (as this examinant doth beleeue) about ffoure or ffiue hundred Men, the names of some of the Cheife of these that were with the said Lewis Moore <B> were Gerrard ffitzgerrard one of the sayd Lewis moores Captains Edward Brimingham of the Carricke Luke Brimingham of Parsonstown Charles Brimingham of the Grange and one Knowles a Mas Preiste And that the said Lewes Moore drewe vp his said force vnto the sayd Castle Carrbery, and summoned the sayd Lady to deliuer vp her Castle wherevpon

wherevpon the said Lady sent out this <C> examinant to treate with the said Lewes Moore, And that the said Lewes Moore then tould this examinant the said Lady her Children and ffamyly should haue onely quarter for theire Liues and wearinge Aparrle, And then this examinant retorned to the Castle and tould the Lady the Condicions which the sayd Lewes Moore did offer, vnto which Condicons the said Lady would not Condescend, And therevpon many shotts were made out of the said Castle att the said Lewes Moores forces, And that about foure howres after the said treaty The said Lewes Moore went away and gaue order to one Capt: Garrard ffitzgerrard to Mannage that buisenesse, and to giue such quarter vnto the said Lady her Children and family as he the said Lewes Moore had in the morninge offered, for the surrender of the said Castle, And that the sayd Lady beinge vnable to subsiste any Longer did Condescend vnto the said Condicons and yealded vp her Castle vpon the afforesaid quarter, And this examinant further saith. next morneinge after they were admitted into the Castle, the said Lewes Moore sent a Lettre vnto the said Capt ffitzgarrald, whereby the said Capt <D> ffitzgarrald was ordered to Cause the said Lady and her Chilldren to be brought vnto Ballanah, and to kill all the men servants that were in the said Castle Parte of which Lettre this examinant did see with the said ffitzgarrard whoe then tould this examinant That, that Lettre which he shewed this examinant as afforesaid was his orders to bringe the Lady and her Children vnto Ballanah, and to kyll all the men servants, wherevpon this examinant was much affraied and made his escape. And this examinant sayth That before he made his escape, he sawe two of the servants <E> which were murdered before the this examinant did see the sayd Lewes moore his Lettre [ ] theire names were John McGwyre and Derby Dolany, And that he sawe heard likewise one William dun slatter was then likewise murdered after the said Moore his Lettre Came and that then one Redmond Pettitt an other of the said Ladys servants was most dangerously wounded And
