The exam Confession of John Doelan of Garry Castle in the Kings County, this 21 of April [16 5 3] about forty yeares of age sayth
That he went into Armes about October last, and being demanded the reason of his so doing answered, That he being questioned for debt and for some Cowes which ware taken in the begining of the warr, went out to keep himself {from} them and being demaunded what Company he kept, he answered, that he sometimes lighted in the Company of some Tories in the Contry, and after being demanded why he resisted and shott the man in the belly that came to apprehend him, he made answare that he stood uppon his owne deffence & having a sword and pistoll (which he fired { } he was taken, and being further demand{ed if} he ware present when one of the Commisary { } owne Troop was killed, he answered he was, { } being asked who it was that killed him { } answared it was one Maghan, and further sayth {not}
