The examination of Elizabeth Stephens of Crottentegan in the Barrony of Slewmargeh taken before me this 5th of June 1652
Being duely Sworne & examined sath <A> That Sir Morgan Kauenagh came with his Regiment in the first yeares of the warrs in Rebellion in Ireland to Beseidge Ballilenan in the Queenes County, And that the souldiers belonging to the said Regiment Apprehended ffiue weomen one man & one Chi{ld}, & Carried them before Sir Morgan Kauenagh, whoe gaue orders they should be Carried to, the quart{er}s of one Capt: Brenan to be executed, which Capt Refused to doe, such an inhumane {ac}t where vpon they weare Carried to Capt H{um}p{hry} Kauenagh whoe then was Car Quartered in <B> Castle towne in the Barrony of Slewmargeh in the Queenes County; whoe gaue orders to haue them executed immeadiatly, which was donne by the said Humphryes Souldiers, her cause of Knowledge in the premises, is that shee was then a Tennant to Mr Clare & dwelling in the said towne of Castletowne when the said act was donne, And ffurther saeth not
