The Examinacion of Any: Nimarchy of Liscarty in the County of Meath taken the 18th of Februrary 1652
This Examinante aged 30 yeares or thereaboutes being duely sworne and Examined deposeth and sayth. That she was wife vnto Phillip macClosker of Schreen in the County of Meath, and that she knowes John Elliott who formerly liued at Bellnamanagh in the said County of Meath, within a myle of this Examinants habitacion, and kept an Alehowse there, and that the sayd John Elliott on Twesday in Whitsone weeke towards the Euening came to this Examinants howse on horseback, where neere to the doore of the same howse meeting with Phillip mac Closkar who hade w ith a child in his Armes, demaunded of him, why he stood there, which Phillip MacClosker answered, I hope I doe you noe hurt in standing heere, and who are you that aske me that question, vnto which, The sayd Elliott replyed, you shall know that, by & by, and soe lighting from his horse drew his sword, and presently mortally wounded the sayd Phillip MacClusker in the head, and cut him in the Shouldier of which wounds within a fortnight he died, his braines breakeing out at the sayd wound in his head, Her cause of knowledge is, That she hearing the Screoks of her husband, imediately runne to him, where she found him wallowing in his blood, and his Child vnder him almost smothered, and she enquiring of her sayd husband who did that bloudy act, he made answer the aforesayd John Elliott, and related vnto her the manner of his assault, and each particular passage as aforesayd, and related the same to diuers others of her neighbours

before his death; This Examinante further sayth That as she heard by others, this John Elliott would releeue her and her children on condicion she would not prosecute him for the Murther of her husband, but if she should, threatned her to burne her house ouer her head hea d and further sayth not.
