The Examinacion of Phelim Mac Bryan of Proudston in the County of Meath Carpenter, taken this third of March 1652/3
The said Phelim McBryan, Aged thirty years, or thereabout, being duely sworn, & examined, deposeth, & saith
That he this Examinant, standing in a Lane in the Towne of Skreene in the County of Meath vpon Whitson Tuesday 1651, talking with One Phillip Closker of, the said Towne of Skreen, there came one John Elliott (now Prisoner) riding vp the Lane, & as he came by the said Closker, who had a Child in his armes, the said Elliot’s horse started, & when the said Elliot was past by the said Closky, he turn’d about his horse, & allighted, & with his drawn sword run at him, the said Closker, unto whom he gaue two blowes, one of them on the head, which cutt the said Closker to the Braine, who thereupon fell down to the ground with the Child in his armes; and this Examinant farther saith, that when the said Elliott had so wounded, & strook down the said Closker, he run at him this Examinat with his drawn sword who escaped his fury by running away; And he farther saith, that the said Closker lived about three weeks longer, or thereabout after, as he remember’s, & as this Examinat perswades himselfe, Hee the said Closker dyed of the said hurt; and it was so generally beleved by the neighbours

for that the said Closker lay languishing in bed of the said wound from the time he was wounded untill his death.
