The Examinacion of Pattrick Plunkett Husbandman of Skreene in the County of Meath, taken at Dublin the 3d of March 1652/3
The said Pattrick Plunckett, Aged about two & twenty years, or thereabout, being duely sworn, & examined saith: That vpon Whitsund Tuesday in the year 1651, He this Examinant being in the said Towne of Skreene in the said County of Meath, standing with his back against a wall in a narrow Lane, talking with one Phillip Closker, who had a little <A> Child in his armes; there came riding vp the Lane one John Elliot, whose horse started, as he came neer the said Phillip Closker, wherevpon the said Elliot asked the said Closker why he did not stand out of his way, what answear the said Closker made, this Examinate doth did not hear now remember; but he saw the said Elliot allight from his horse, & with his drawn sword run at the [ at the ] said Closker, who fled from him, & cryed for Mercy; but he the said Elliot in following p ursuit of him gaue him two blowes; whereof one was upon the head, which cloue the said Closker to the braine upon which the said Closker fell to the ground with the Child under him.
And this Examinate farther saith That he the said Elliot ran likewise at him this Examinate with his drawn sword; but he this Examinant by his flight escaped from him And he likewise saith that hey the said Closk er dyed a month, or thereabout after, & as was generally believed by the neighbours, & by this Examinate, of the foresayd wound, for that he la y hauing languishing in bed from the time he was hurt, untill he dyed. And farther saith not.
