The examinacion of Katheryn nyn Irr aged 24 yeares or ther abouts wyfe of vnto Diermott Duff knowlan Carpenter taken the xvjth day of August 1653 before Colonell Thomas Herbert and Thomas Dancer Esquire two of the Committee appoynted by the High Court of Justice sitting at Dublin for taking examinacions of Massacres & murthers &c
Whoe being duely sworn and examined deposeth and sayth That at the tyme that Mr Edmund Dalton was hanged at BoolyvickCahillroe in the County of Westmeath this examinant then was a servant vnto one Hugh o ffahy and lived with him at a place Called Boyanagh in the County of aforesayd which is within a quarter of a quarter of a Myle from BoolyvickCahillroe aforesayd And being in her Masters sayd howse on a sunday morning being the same day that the sayd Mr Dalton was hanged, ther came into the sayd howse soone after the sayd Murther was Committed one John <A> Magawly whose name she did not then know with an other mann in his companny whom she doth not as yet knowe each of them having a pyke in his hand and fynding none in the sayd howse But this examinant and a Chyld of her sayd Maste{r} of yeare old the sayd John Magawly whom she vnderstood afterwards to be so Called and the other mann [ whoe she ] whose name she knoweth not went presently together out of the sayd howse the sayd John Magawly having then with him tyed vp vnder his arm the Clothes of the sayd Edmund Dalton vizt his breeches which she did perfectly se{e} with, but the rest of his clothes were so bound vp vnder h{is} arme that she could not well disern the same, she sayth that the breeches were of broadcloth and of a whytish Colour And the examinant further sayth that presently after the sayd John Magawly and the other man whose name she knoweth not went out of her Masters sayd howse, ther came into the sayd howse severall other people whose names she knoweth not Whoe

<B> whoe publiquely sayd that the sayd John Magawly was the very mann that, about an hower before, did put the rope about the sayd Edmund Daltons neck and hanged him, And that he had then with him when he [ ] went out of her masters sayd howse the sayd Edmunds his clothes tied vp vnder his Arme and that he and the other that was in his company were both soldiers vnder the Comaund of Oliver buy Magawly And the examinant further sayth that manny tymes after she heard it publiquely reported <C> in the Country that the sayd Oliver buy Magawly was the principall mann that caused the sayd Murther to be committed And this examinant further sayth that very often afterwards, she did see the sayd John Magawly and knewe him to be the mann that hanged the sayd Edmund Dalton And that she did well knowe his father whoese [ ] name is Donogh Magawly sometymes of Kilgarrowe in the sayd County of Westmeath husbandman whoe [ ] died about a tweluemoneth now past, she sayth further that Owny Magawly sister vnto the sayd John Magawly about a fortnigh sithence tould her this examinant that her sayd brother John Magawly is nowe dwelling at Ballyloghloe in the County aforesayd and is sheapheard there vnto Henry Magawly And this examinant further sayth that the sayd owny and the examinant further sayth that the sayd O did then tell this examinant that her sayd brother John Magwly told h confessed to her the sayd Owny that he had a hand in the murther of the sayd Edward Dalton And the examinant further sayth not.
