<A> The further examinacion of ffaghny mcLisagh fferrall of Newtowne in the County of Longford Esquire who being further examined touching the late murther of many English Protestants at the Castle of longford in or about November 1641 sayth that whereas in his former Examinacion taken before at dublin hee did declare that hee had heard at Trim (as hee and others were g in the said former Examinacion mencioned were goeing downe from dublin into the said County of longford) that the said mir murther was committed hee acknowledgeth hee did heare soe reported there, but comming into the Countrey hee found the said report false, for that the murther was not then committed, And further sayth that hee the said Examinant having received from the then Councell of State sitting at dublin some coppies of a Proclamacion that all such persons as were out and had done any acts of violence (having rashly entred into such Actions) and shold then come in and submitt

themselues vppon the said Proclamacion shold receive free pardon for their Offences, ffreeholders onely excepted, hee this Examinant (or to that effect,) hee this Examinant at his comming to Longford from dublin as aforesaid did affix one of the said Proclamacions or coppies to the Crosse in the Towne of longford, (having the same morneing fixed another coppie on the markett house in St Johnstowne) And sayth that most of the persons (Comanders) in his former Examinacion mencioned, and alsoe one Richard mcConnell fferrall, & Edmond oge fferrall, both living within a a mile of longford (who comanded eich a Brigade Squadron of the said Irish partye then in the towne of Longford, were present when this Examinant affixed the said Proclamacion to the Crosse, and heard the Exhortacion given them all (by this Examinant) to desist from their designe, and wicked practise, & submitt themselues to the Councell of State, whereunto <B> Connocke mcRosse fferrall (Comander in Cheife of the said fforces) and some others of the Comanders aforesaid (but who hee doth not now remember) answered it was not safe for them to

submitt or lay downe Armes, because of the said Excepcion in the Proclamacion, and if all might not be pardoned they were better goe or though they shold dye for it, or words to <C> that effect, and presently thereuppon the said Connocke and the rest tore downe the said Proclamacion, and committed this Examinant Prisoner to one Connor Kennyes house in the said towne of Longford, where they kept a guard vppon him all that night, but the next day the Examinant procured his libertye, and went home to his owne house, And further sayth that (after that tyme a few days) Sir James dillon with a comanded party of horse came before Longford, to appose the said Rebells, and releive the Castle (which was t not then taken by the Irish) but was repulsed or beaten backe, and forced to retreat by the said Irish party in Longford, all which was seuerall dayes before the said murther or massacre at Longford, as this Examinant heard at his owne house, being but about three miles from the towne And further sayth not
