<A> The further Examinacion of Bartholomewe Nangle of Longford Merchant aged fortye foure yeares or thereabouts taken before Colonell Thomas Herbert and Thomas Richardson Esquire two of the members of the high Court of Justice by Order of the said Court, the 25th day of ffebruary 1652.
<A> The said Examinant being demanded whether hee knewe Hugh mc Murrogh fferrall of Kilmore, ffergus mc Edmond fferrall of Moytragh Richard mc Connell and Lisagh mc Connell of the same John mc Kernan of the County of Cavan, Connell Cam fferrall and James mc Shane fferrall, and which of them were in the towne of longford and Actors in the seige against the Castle and murthering the English there after quarter given them in the first yeare of the Rebellion, sayth that hee knoweth all the said parties except Hugh mc Murrogh fferrall of Kilmore but if the same be Hugh mc Murragh fferrall that lived somtyme at Moytrath then the sayt Examinant sayth that hee knoweth him, And further sayth that all the said partyes were in Armes of the Irish party in the seig of the Castle of longford and at at the tyme of the rendring vppe of the same to the Irish vppon Articles, and that Lisagh mc Connell and Richard mc Connell fferrall two of the said persons beforenamed were the men appointed and agreed vppon both by the

<B> English in the Castle and the Irish beseigers to haue the Conduct of the said English to the County of westmeath the said lisagh and Richard being then Captaines of a hundred foot eich, and the which notwithstanding they and all the rest of the persons beforenamed with their seuerall Companyes were vppon the greene stripping the English at their comming out of the Castle and murthering as busy as any, of the rest, his cause of knowledge is that hee was present neere Robte Pettitts house vppon the greene endeavouring to rescue what Goods he cold for the English, where hee saw many of them pillaged, but did not stay the murther there, being <C> himselfe threatned by one Heslenan, as in his former Examinacion hee hath expressed, whereuppon hee hasted over the River to his owne house where if hee cold haue seene if any of the said persons had left the place and come into the Towne before the said murther was committed, but did not see any of them come over as aforesaid, and therefore hee maketh noe doubt, but verily beleiveth they were all vppon the place and either acting or countenancing and abetting the said murther, And further sayth sayth that hee this Examinant being at gott home to his owne dore presently saw the said James mc Shane fferrall pursueing mr Thomas Allen and forced him with a halberd in his hands wherewith hee forced him into the River, which this Examinant seing went vppe to the middle into the water to rescue him, and with the assistance of his brother in law Thomas Geoghegan who was then standing by him gott the said Thomas

Allen into his this Examinants owne house, where hee did endeaver to preserve him from the violence of the Irish till they were ready to burne his house, and then hee was convayed into the Common goale there, where hee was kept two or three dayes, and then brought <D> out by one Connell Cam fferrall (whom they called Marshall) to be hanged, which this Examinant seeing, ernestly desired the said Connell to consider hee had done harme enough, and to forbeare executing mr Allen vntill hee this Examinant had bin with his Commander in Cheife, to see if hee cold saue his life, whereunto the said Connell Cam answerd that in spight of the Comanded Comander and of him this Examinant hee the said Connell Cam wold hang the said Mr Allen, & thereuppon (being assisted with a rude multitude of Soldiers) led him to ex the Common galowes, and there hanged him the said Mr Allen till hee was dead, his cause of knowledge appereth in his examinacion, And further hee sayth not.
