Beniamen Barter late of Kilbolane in the barrony of Orrery and Ki{l}more and within the County of Corke husb: (a brittish protestant) duly sworne and examined before vs by vertue of &c deposeth and sait{h} that about the first of Aprile 1642 and since the begining of t{he} present rebellion in Ireland he lost was robbed and forceably dispoy{led} of his goods and Chattles to the seuerall values following vizt value of 30 li.
Off Cowes and horses to the value of three & Twenty pounds Off houshouldstuffe to the value of twenty pounds. Off Corne in grou{nd} to the value of six pounds, The Totall of his losses amounts to thirty pounds. He also saith that about the first of Nouember 16{ } and about the latter end of May last this deponents said Cattle sent to be kept to Richard fitz Gerrald Steward and ouerseer to <A> Sir William Power Knight which fitz Gerrald is now liuing among th{e} Rebells wher by this deponent is neuer likely to recouer any of his said Ca{ttle} The deponent being further examined deposeth that about the fou{re} and twentieth of 7ber last (he being porter a long time to Sir William Po{wer} afforsaid att Kilbullane) aforesaid this deponent about one a Clocke in afternoone of the same day waiting at the outward gate of Kilbolane afforsaid as his custome was the said Sir William sent to this deponent to admitt some that stood then in the gate (being reput{ed} domesticke servants to the said Sir William) to come in which this deponent accor{d}ingly obserued and noe sooner this deponent had opened the said gate but then and there lay purposely some of Dauid Powers companie granchild to the said Sir William who now & then is in open accion of rebellion who presently entered the said gate, and instantly tooke {the} said Castle. This deponent saith that hee is confident the said Cas{tle} was lost and taken by the Prauity privitie & Consent of the said Sir William himself, the motiues that induceth this deponent soe to beleeue are these, ffirst the very same day the said Castle was taken {the} deponent obserued the said Sir William to send his page one [M]alon Co{ }cy to the gates of the said Castle to remoue the said ward and centi{nells} (which then & before by turnes guarded the said gate) to a garden a{t} the backside of the said Castle that therby none may intercept the Enemies entering the same secondly when this deponent (being ouerlayd with multitudes) perceaued himself unable to resist, fled to {the} Inner gate where stood an Iron grate & there made a stand pulling the s{aid} grate unto him which was likewise assaulted by those of the said Dauids { } helpe { }

Sir William himself then standing in the Court within the said gate accompanied with <B> his steward and page afforesaid & diuers others of his servants, who notwithstanding neuer aided nor sent any help to this deponent, wheruppon the said Dauid Power possessed himself of the said Castle. Thirdly this deponent tooke notice that seuerall times Sir William commaunded him this deponent being porter to admitt one Nicholas Hackett of Drumcalloe in the County of Limericke gentleman Ensigne to the said Dauid then in open and actuall rebellion to come into the said Castle att diuers times all which circumstances this deponent knoweth to be true, he being eye wittnesse of the passages himself, therfore he conceaues what he hath declared against the said Sir William is euidently true & further hee deposeth not
