Mary Martin the wife of Gerry Martin of Cookestreet Dublin Tailor being duely sworne and Examined Saith
That the next day before the murthereing of the English at the Castle of Longford (being in the first yeare of the late rebellion of the Irish) shee this Examinant being was wayting on mrs Kenneday (wife to John Kennedy of Mullagh neere longford Esquire) in the said Towne of longford, the said mrs Kennedy and her children (with seaven or eight <A> servants) being all on their way from Mullagh (whence they were turned out by one Lisagh duff fferrall and others) towards the said Captaine fferralls house, the said Examinant saw most of the then Irish gentry of the Countrey in the said Towne of longford, and many of their wyves, amongst whom shee sayth shee saw and observed ffaghny begg fferrall, Roger Nangle & one Maior fferrall (as hee was called), very busy in signeing of Passes for English people to come for Dublin, And she sayth that they gaue her mistresse a passe, which shee saw the said Roger Nangle, Maior fferrall soe called and the said ffaghny beg fferrall signe, in a low roowme of the said Roger mr Bartholomew Nangle his house in longford And further saith that vppon her the said Mrs Kennedyes receiving the said Passe shee this Examinant told her said mistresse the said Mrs Kenneday that that passe wold doe

her noe good if any of the Rebells shold meet with them at which word her said Mistresse did chang her countenance and grew very pl pale, and the said Roger Nangle <B> repeated the word Rebells in great Anger, which this Examinant perceiving replied that shee meant any loose stragling roagues they might meete withall wold not care for the passe vnlesse there were a preist or a ffryer sent along with them, wherevppon a ffrier was sent along with them about seaventeene miles from longford to whom her said mistresse shee gaue a ring from off her ffinger for his paines, And the Examinant further sayth that whiles her mistresses passe was writing her said Mistresse desired from mrs Nangle then the wife of the said mr Bartholomew Nangle of Longford Merchant some Aquavite for money, shee being with Child, and sorrowfull and readye to faint, which the said Mrs Nangle proudly denied, sayeing shee wold poure her Aquavite on the dunghill before any English dogg shold haue haue any of it, And the said ffaghny beg fferrall Roger Nangle or the rest of the gentlemen present, never soe much as mooved mrs Nangle, but one of her <C> said Mistresse her Nurses (whose name the Examinant doth not remember but sayth shee now lives in longford) went on her knees for some Aquavite, but was denied it, And the Examinant further saith that before the said Gentlemen wold write her said Mistresse her passe they Examined her what goods shee had left in her Trunks whereof shee gaue them an Accompt, which the said Roger Nangle did write downe, the

said ffaghny beg fferrall and two [ ] of their company <D> more being present, And sayth that when they had gott their passe and the ffryer, & were gone out of the house shee this Examinant saw the said Bartholomew Nangle come riding into the town with a pike in his hand, and his horse all in a sweat, & the said Bartholomew being asked (as hee was alg alighting downe from his horse) by some in the street, what newes, the said Bartholomew in a ioyfull manner answeared All is our owne, which words hee vttered in the hearing of this Examinant and her said mistress and her daughter mrs Jane Kenneday and one Margarett fferrall now living at Palmerstowne then one of the said Mrs Kennedyes Nurses, which Margarett (as the Examinant verily beleiveth) doth know who were the murtherers at longford if shee wil acknowledge the trueth, for that shee the said Margarett lived at and Continued at longford And further sayth not. save that shee sayth that one mrs Amy Rely then another of her said Mistresses servants and now living at Athboy was present and can saw and heard as much as shee this Examinant hath deposed.
