The examinacion of Edward Sinott of Roselare yeoman aged fourtye foure yeares or thereabout beinge dulye sworne and examened on behalfe of the Comonwealth sath and deposeth
That this deponent was a seriant vnder the Command of Capt Thomas Rosseter in the first yeare of the warr and sath, that the 27th of March 1642 the said Rosseter with his Companye marched against the forte of Duncannon & came to a place Calld shold burckstowne within two miles of the said <g> fforte the next daie after being the 28th daie of the said moneth where they mett with [ ] Maior Jeames Butler and his Company; and saw the after naimed persons at the said Burckstowne (vizt) William Esmond of Johnstowne Esquire Peter Esmond sonne and heire to the said William: Richard Sinott of Ballebreinan gentleman Phillep Lamporte of ballehiere gentleman Jeames Cood of Cluist Gentleman Jeames Peirce of ballelle gentleman with others all of the barronye of forte in the Countye of Waxford (by which barronye the said Rosseters Companye was raised and armed at theire Charge for the seruice of the Irish against duncanon) all which aforenamed gentlemen were some on horesback and some on foote all with swords but what other armes this deponent knoweth not, and farthe{r} sath that the said Rosseters Company and gentlemen aforesaid Continued in armes at burckstowne aforesaid about fiue nights: and then marched towards the forte: and afterward the same daye to shilbeggon: about two miles distant from the forte of Duncanon; where the said Companye and gentlemen Continued for the space of about tenn dayes; in which tyme a partye of the English Came out of the forte of Duncannon to the Castle of Dungulpe (the howse of one Walter Whittye proprietor) defended onlye by the said Whittye and his Brother Adam whittye, and one other brother which this deponent remembereth not his name and his seruants none of which

said persons were in pay of the Irish as this deponent Conceaueth where there was some shootin shootinge on both sides and as this deponent was tould by the aforesaid Adam Whittye there was two Englishmen Kild of the said English partye slaine one of which two by the said Adam Whittye out of a window by a shote he made as the same Adame told this deponent, and farther sath that on heareinge the shote the said Rosseters Company with William Esmond aforesaid Richard sinott aforsaid Phillepe Lamporte Jeames Codd and Jeames Pearce aforesaid to the best of this deponents remembrance but to his sure knowledge the said William <h> Esmond and Jeames Codd were and did march with them and Jespar Prendergast of the Gurtings gentleman marchinge to dungulpe to the assistance of the said Whittye and Cominge in sight of Dungulpe: the English drew off and marched backe, and the said Rosseter and partye marched allsoe mack backe toward shilbegan there beinge a bogg betwen the aforesaid partyes and farther sath that one Leift Treuisoe bel with some fiueteen of the english partye followed the reare of the said Rosseters partye, whoe were all slaine by the said Rosseters partye with one woman that belonged to the forte and the gentleman last named on this side the deposesion to the best of this deponent Knowledge were then present but to the Certaine Knowledge of this deponent the three last named persons were there present, and after then the partye returned to shilbegan aforesaid and soone after Cam home to the barronye of forte from where they were raised, and about fourteen dayes after the said Rosseter with the his Company marched backe to Shilbegan aforesaid where they mett with L

and Joyned with Leift Collonell Browne and his Company Capt Thomas Roch and his Company and Capt John Roch and his Companye where the seauerall Companys Continued to gather for aboue two monthes except John Roch his Companye whoe remoued to Tunteren to ioyne [ ] with Capt John Deuerux of montpill to take the said tunteren, (from the possesion of the english) in which tyme there was litle ser seruice done till about the twenteth of Julye 1642 on which day a partye of the english went by water from Duncannon vnder the comand of Capt Auston and landed nere the tower of Hooke with intention to haue taken redma <I> Redmans Hall belonginge to mr Robert Redmond whoe defended the same against the said partye, and the seuerall Companyes of Capt Rosseter and Capt Thomas Roch beinge within hearinge of the shootinge one william Hore of harpers towne Esquire beinge present with them aduised them sayeinge this is our Neighbor redmond which is besedged by the English it is fitt wee shuld asist and helpe our neighbor on which motion of the said Harper Hore the said Company and hooper Hore marched downe to the aforesaid redmonds hall and fell on the said English partye and kiled and drowned at least one hundered and one Leift Esmond and about fourteen more were taken presioner seauen of which were by the said Thomas Roch the next morninge were hanged at returninge and some tyme after the aforesaid Leiuft and his brother and some others wer of the said presioners were allsoe hanged

and beinge demanded what officers were present at the aforesaid slaughter at B redmonds hall, sath that Capt Thomas Roch Leift Richard sutton sonne to William sutton of ballechearagemore Esquire desessed Ensigne Rich sinott: Capt John Deuerux of montpill whoe had noe Comand there but hapened accedentually to be there, and beinge demanded what gentlemen of the Countrye were there that had noe office milletarye, sath the aforesaid Willam William Hore and his sonne Anthony Hore and Richard stafford of Kelkenan desessed but what others this deponent know knoweth not, and farthe sath that in the month of August of the same yeare the English cam forth Capt Roch had intillegen{ce} of a partye of English of the forte Com abroad to reape Corne for theire releife laid an ambush for the said English partye and fell vpon them and killed about fourtye of them and sath that the aforesaid aforenaimed officers were all present at the said seruice and farther this deponent Can not depose
