The Examinacion of William Jones of Clansharragh in the barrony of shelbyrne & County of Wexford Mason aged about sixty three yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning James Lowes of the Graiges in the said County of Wexford gent
<To the 1st inter> The examinant deposeth & saith that the said James dwelt at Graiges in the said County of wexford in the Irish quarters the whole time of the rebellyon & did not thence remooue into the english quarters <f> as Nicholas Loftus esquire the Ladie Colclough & other protestants did
<To the 2d interr> Hee Cannot depose
<To the 3d & 4th inter> The deponent saith that in the first yeare & the [ ] of the rebellyon the deponent being not able to subsist in the forte of Duncannon by reason of his Numerous famile hauing nyne Children did goe liue at his former habitacion neere the graiges, to which Graiges the deponent did frequently resorte & did in the first yeare of the rebellyon see the said James to haue & keep in his howse twelue musquets & one Harke=busheer <l> & twelue pikes made by the said James of his owne trees which pikes & musquets were constantly at the gate of the said James his howse in Nature of a court of guard & the deponent saith that he did see the tennants of the said james to [ ] keep watch & vse the said Armes in the said James his howse, as well by night as by day And the deponent further saith that vpon whitson eue after the rebellyon brake forth the deponent came with a partie of the english out of the forte of Duncannon (whereinto the Lord Esmond receiued the deponent & his family being that he & they were like to be Killed being dayly threatned by the Irish) to the Graiges, beca against which Graiges being come the said

James Armed with a musquet with about twenty men after him in Armes, came forth against the english partie & that the said James his brother and and others of the said James his Company made diuers shot against the english, & the deponent did see the said James vpon his Knee to present his musquet (as if he would haue fired) against a trooper that came against him, at which time a brother of the said James <m> was Killed by the english party, And further saith that a short time after before that another party of the fort Coming to the Graiges, one of them by Name Robert Blundell was taken prissoner by the said James Lowes & by him carryed to Rosse, & detayned in prisson for the space of halfe of a yeare, & afterwardes the said James did mediate to the Ld of Mountgarret to hang the said souldyer which the said Mountgarret denyed to doe, This deponents cause of Knowledge is for that this deponent did see the said Blundell in the said Lowes his howse, & when the said Lowes carryed him to Rosse & did see the said Blundell & speake with him after his returne from Rosse by whom the deponent was informed of the said James his prosecuting of him the said Robert Blundell as aforesaid

<To the 9th inter> The deponent saith that about eight yeares since the said James was Cheife collector of the publicque leuyes <n> for the Irish Armie in the barrony of shelbyrne His cause of Knowledge is for that the deponent did see warrants vnder the said James his handes for the gathering in the said monyes

<To the 10th interr> The Examinant saith that William & stephen Lewes two of the said James his brothers & Edmond & William Lewes the said James his Cousens were in Armes on Whitson eue in the said yeare 1642 vnder the Comand of the said James Lewes when the said James, & about twenty men fought with & against the party of english whereof the deponent was one) that came out of the forte of Duncannon as aforesaid, the deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent did see the said James his two <o> brothers, & two cousens, with seauerall of his houshould seruants in Armes at the time aforesaid at which time stephen Lewes one of the said James his brothers was then and there Killed.

13th> Hee cannot depose; other then that the said James Lowes hath told the deponent about eight yeares since agoe & seauerall times since, that he the said James was <p> very sorry that he had plunderred the english in the first yeare of the rebellyon as others did and further saith not &c
