Nicholas Staples of Ballihally gent aged thirty fiue yeares or thereabouts being duely sworne & examined Concerning the foresaid Patr Cullun deposeth & saith that about foure monthes after wexford was subdued to the obedience of the english there came a warrant signed by one Collonel Dungan an or some other officer of the Irish partie Directed to the said Patricke & the deponent Requiring them to rayse a some <g> monyes, to about the vallue of fiftie poundes for mayntenance of the Irish Armie then in Armes: which said Patr: in pursuance thereof imposed a rate vpon the halfe of the said barrony, of Bargie to that effect & sent the said warrant signed by Collonel Dungan or some other as aforesaid to this deponent by one of his the said Patrickes seruants acquaintin{g} this deponent as well by the Relacion of his said seruant, as by some endorsement on the said warrant that he the said Patr had layd fifteen shillings on each ploughland in his parte of the barrony, & aduised this deponent to doe the like for the effecting the contents of the said warrant: At which time the said Patr was a protected person vnder the english & the deponent saith that he did see a warrant vnder the said Patrickes hand directed to a Constable or collector in the

peere of Kilcowan for the Raysing & leuying the monyes in his the said patrickes warrant mencioned, for the pay or <h> maintenance of the Irish forces as aforesaid which the said Patricke did without the allowance or approbacion of the then gouernor of the said County Collonel Cooke to whom this deponent carryed the said warrant to him & the said patr directe{d} & did not act any therein & further cannot depose
