James Peirce of Ballell gent aged about fortie yeares being duely sworne & examined, touching the said Dauid Devereux of Knockhowling
<To the 1st inter> The deponent saith that the said Dauid Devereux dwelte at Knochowling in the said county the whole time of the rebellion to this present day, and did not thence remooue into the english quarters as Nicholas Codd esquire <c> walter Stafford & other protestants liuing neere him did, his cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was a neere neighbour to the said Dauid Deuereux
<To the 2d interr> Hee cannot depose
<To the 3d interr> The deponent saith that he is very confident that the said Dauid did paie contribucion equall with his neighboures to the maintenance of the Irish forces, in Armes being a man of a good substance
<To the 4th interr> The deponent saith that vpon st steuens day in the yeare (1641: the deponent was in Company with, & did see the said Dauid marching amongst the Irish of the County either with a pike or a musquet (but whether the deponent cannot depose) towardes the forte of Duncannon & <d> that the said Dauid Deuereux & the deponent marched with the said Company from Balimakehan as farre as Tamon castle, & noe further, the cause of this examinants knowledge is for that the said Dauid & this examinant went backe from Tamon to a place called Deanestowne, withe where the deponent & the said Dauid laie that night, & for that the deponent did see the said Dauid in Armes as aforesaid
<To the 5th inter> The deponent saith that he had frequently seen the said Dauid Devereux at seauerall publicque meetings of the Irish at the crosse of Killinicke as well the first yeare of the rebellyon as since
