The Examinacion of Major Edward Aston of Kilbarrie in the County of Waterford esquire taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning John Deuereux of Mountpill in the County of wexford gent
vpon the whole matter of the Interrogatoryes the examinant deposeth & saith that the said John Devereux was the Comander In cheife of the Irish Rebells of the said County of wexford in Armes that in or about the moneth of July 1642; beseiged the castle of Tinterne in the said County of Wexford then kept & defended by the deponent & a partie of english, for & in the behalfe of the english Interest And the deponent further <f> saith that the said John had or was to receiue of John Colclough [ ] the sum of foure hundred poundes as a reward or recompence for taking in of the said castle & the deponent further saith that the said John was, was one of that partie, that killed the deponents father & a party of english, consisting of fourscore or thereabouts, vnder the Comand of this deponents said father by Name Capt Thomas Aston which killing was done [ ] at a place called Redmondshall, in the said moneth of July Anno 1642 some few dayes before the said Deuereux & his party came to beseig this deponent as aforesaid, At which The deponents cause of knowledge is for that the said John Deuereux receiued a wound on his side at the fight at Redmondshall aforesaid, which was fresh & vnder care at the time that the said Devereux tooke the said castle of Tinterne from the deponent, & the said John Deuereux then & there told the deponent that he the said Deuereux had Receiued that wound from the deponents father & further saith not &c
