Mathew wadding of Pettitstowne yeoman aged thirty yeares or thereabouts being duely sworne & examined on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning the foresaid John Devereux of Mountpill esquire saith & deposeth that the said John Devereux did act & abet the Rebellyon & Murthers, & massacres, Comitted vpon the english in the first yeare of the Rebellyon, for that the said John was in actuall Armes, [ ] and <s> with the Irish at a place called Hooke where one Captaine Aston, and a great Number of english, bellonging to the forte of Duncannon were killed about July 1642: & that the said John did lead & encourage the Irish there to doe that seruice in [ ] wishing them to fall on, at which time the said Deuereux Receiued a wound in by his forwardnes in that execucion, The deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was at the seruice aforesaid as a priuate souldyer in Capt Thomas Rosceters Company, & did then & there see the said John Deuereux personally present & did heare him pronounce them wordes of Comand (fall on) to the Irish partie, at their killing of the english as aforesaid, & further saith not &c
