Nicholas Codd of Somertoune beeing dewly Sworne and examined one the behalfe of the Comonwealth against the foresaid Richard Wadding & John Wading
Saith Vpon the wholl matter of the Interr That hee very well knowes both the said persons & that they lived Anno 41 at Ballecogley in the County of Wexford & for the most part of the warrs while it was of the Irish quarters, And saith That the said Richard Wading accompanyed with William Esmond Esquire, Robert Esmond his sonne & others with seaven men only accoutred with Swords ( as hee remembers) Came to Castletowne in Carne the howse of Mr Nicholas Codd a protestant then fled for England or Wales, about Whitsontide after the warrs beganne, & fynding the doore of the house shutt the said Rich: & those with him called to bee let in but one John Codd brother to the said Nicholas then within refused, Wherevpon they the said Wading <z> & Mr Esmond comanded their Men, & all others then present (of which this examinant was one) to take vp a great beame of Tymber to force open the doore, saying they wold b e e punish them if they did not & there with stroke at the doore & crackt it &[ ] the said Wading & Esmond first laying their hands to take vp the said Beame, After which they within set open the doore, & the said Wading with the rest tooke possession & turned & placed a guard then there Leaving the said Robert Esmond to Comaund them, & within fewe dayes after there was sent to the said guard, some Muskets, from the said Wading & Esmond (as hee conceives) because in this deponents hearing after they tooke the said house they the said Wading & Esmond promised soe to doe, And further saith not.
