The examinacion of Jonas Rushworth of Eniscorthy gent taken Aged fifty one yeares or thereabouts taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning James Stafford of wexford gent deceased vpon the Interrogatoryes annexed to the Commission of enquiry
<To the 1st Interr> The Examinant saith that the said James dwelt in the Irish quarters the first yeare & the whole time of the rebellyon sometimes at Rohale his Countrey howse & other times at wexford And that the said James did not remooue thence into the english quarters as diuers english and protestants <n> liuing in wexford & neere Rahale did: His cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was Intimately acquainted with the said James, & dwelt neere to the said James for seauerall yeares
<To the 2d Interr> Hee Cannot depose
< To the 3d & 4th Inter> Hee saith that he is Confident that the said James did Contribute his person and endeauours in the first yeare of the rebellyon In the promoting the same against the english & that likewise he beleiues that the said James <o> did act and abet the Rebellyon in that yeare, His cause of knowledge is for that the deponent hath seen the said James in Armes with the said first yeare in the towne of Eniscorthy amongst the Irish there
<To the 5th inter> The deponent saith that he did see the said James with the assemblyes of the Irish that were gathered at <p> Eniscorthy (where this deponent dwelt) at the sittings & meetings of the County Councell there in the first yeare of the Rebellyon & before the 10th of 9ber 1642 & often sithence in carrying on the Rebellyon
<To the 6th inter> The deponent saith that he beleiues the said James did Joyne with the Irish in electing of generall assembly men and <q> prouinciall Councellors for that this deponent did see the said James frequently with the Irish at their meetings & knoweth that he was a busie [ ] an actiue man and And an vnderstanding man & soe was not exempted in soe generall a busines as that was

<To the 7th Inter> The Examinant saith that he beleiues that the said James did take the oath of associacion for that the said James was <r> a man well affected to the Irish cause & the oath being generall that he is Confident the said James could not decline the taking thereof
<To the 8th Inter> Hee Cannot depose
<To the 9th interr> The deponent saith that the said James had the Comand of the Castle of wexford & was Captaine of the men therein <s> at the time the same was taken by the english 1649: this deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent heard the same from by the generall relacion of the Countrey
<To the 10th Interr> The deponent saith that the said Michaell James had one brother by name Michaell Stafford who was Mayor of Wexford the yeare 1649: His cause of knowledge <t> is for that the deponent hath seen and knowne him the said Michaell to officiate in that capacity in the towne of wexford: And further saith that the said James had another brother Named Richard Stafford who as this deponent was credibly informed was one of the Lord of Antrims faction & actiue in the abetting the Rebellyon.
