The examinacion of Nicholas Stafford of Ballimakeharne esquire taken on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning James Neuill of Wexford in the County of wexford merchant deceased
<To the 1st Inter> The Examinant deposeth & saith that the said James Neuill to the deponents personall knowledge Liued in the towne of wexford in the Irish quarters, the first yeare of the warres & did not <g> thence remooue into the english quarters but Continued there till the said towne was stormed by the Lord generall Cromwells Armie At which time the said James was killed or drowned
<To the 2d inter> He cannot depose
<To the 3d inter> Hee deposeth that he beleiues the said James did contribute his proporcion of publicque Leuyes Laid <h> on the towne and countrey for Aduancing the warre in and since the first yeare thereof
<To the 4th & 5th> Hee cannot depose
<To the 6th interr> Hee the deposeth that the said James was at or before the 10th of Nouember 1642: present at seauerall publicque meetings of the towne inhabitants and <i> did Joyne with others in the electing of men for the generall assemblyes, the said James being to the deponents owne knowledge an actiue & busie man in the affayres of the towne
<To the 7th inter> He deposeth & is confident that the said James did take the oath of associacion, it being soe generall a thing that it could not be avoyded of any as the deponent conceiueth
<To the 8th 9th 10 & 11th inter> He cannot depose
<To the 12 inter> The deponent saith and verily beleiueth that the said James did comonly and vsually buy of the pyrates & men <k> of warre Coming into the wexford diuers merchandizes & goods taken at sea by the said pyrates from the english & others and by that meanes

as the deponent Beleiueth did much enrich himselfe The cause of the deponents knowledge is for that the deponent being frequently in the said towne & knowing the said James heard thereof by the generall relacion of the Inhabitants of the said towne And to the deponents personall knowledge there was a dutch captaine a pyrate (whose name <L> the deponent knoweth not) Lodged & entertained at the said James his howse
