The examinacion of Richard Shortall of Eniscorthy gent aged about forty yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning Nicholas Stafford of Ballimakeharne in the County of Wexford esquire vpon the Interrogatoryes annexed to the Comission of enquiry.
<To the 1st Inter> The examinant deposeth and saith that for many yeares past the deponent hath knowne the said Nicholas Stafford & saith that the said Nichas Liued Att Ballimakeharne in the County of Wexford in the Irish quarters the first yeare of the rebellyon and the whole time thereof and did not sithence remooue into the english quarters As the <c> deponent conceiues he might haue done with Mr Nicholas Codd & Mr Adam Waller (protestants) Liuing neere him the said Nichas The deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent Liued in the County of Wexford & did see the said Nicholas in the said County
<To the 2d 3: 4: 5: 6:> Hee cannot depose
<To the 7th Inter> Hee deposeth and saith that there was an oath of associacion generally ministered to all sortes of people throughout <d> the whole Countrey, without exempcion soe as the deponent beleiues the said Nichas did take the said oath
<To the 8th Interr> Hee cannot depose
<To the 9th interr> Hee deposeth that the said Nicholas did act & had the title of gouernor of the County of Wexford the first yeare of the warre by vertue of a Comission from the Lords Justices & Councell at Dublin, And that afterwardes the said Nichas <e> Executed the office of high sherriffe in the County aforesaid The in or about the yeare 1643: His cause of knowledge is that he hath seen the said Nicholas to execute that office of high sherriffe at Limericke in the County of wexford
<To the 10th Inter> Hee saith that the said Nicholas had a brother by Name whose Name the deponent cannot at present remember but <conceiues it to be Dennis> who Liued in the first yeare of the rebellyon in the towne of Rosse in the Irish quarters vnder one Mr ffitzharyes Barnaby Dormer
