The examinacion of William mc Richard of Churchtowne neere Redmonds hall yeoman aged about fiftie yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning Allexander Redmond of the Hall in the barrony of shelbyrne & County of wexford gent deceased:
<To the 1st inter> The deponent saith that he well knew the said Allexander Redmond and that the said Allexander dwelt at his howse at Redmondshall in the said County in the first yeare & the whole time of the rebellyon & did not thence remooue into the english quarters as he might haue done as well as Nicholas Loftus esquire Mr <p> Myers, the Lady Colclough & other his protestant neighbours did the deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was seruant to the said Allexander the first and seauerall yeares of the warre
<To the 2d & 3 inter> He Cannot depose
<To the 4d interr> The deponent saith that the said Allexander in the first yeare of the rebellyon and before the 10th of Nouember 1642 did maintayne and keep in his howse three men in Armes as Namely George Keating, Shane mc Morish & John mc Dermot for defence of his said howse against the english party in Duncannon forte: which said three men were not seruants before the warre but <q> taken into the said house and maintained, purposely to keep & defend the said howse & that they did Little worke onely would goe a fowling for the vse of the said howse And further saith that the said Allexander did giue vnto the said George Keating Shane mc Morish & John mc Dermot three musquets to each of them one with powther and bullets the deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent being an houshould seruant to the said Allexander Redmond was an eyewitnes to euery of the said particular actions
<To the 4th inter> The examinant further deposeth that on St Margarets day in the first yeare of the rebellyon 1641: a party of the english <r> Came from Duncannon forte by water to Redmonds hall aforesaid & there Summoned the said Redmond to yeild the castle to them which the said Redmond denyed to doe

or to giue them entrance into the said howse whereuppon the english party shot against the said howse & the three men in Armes within the sd said howse vizt George Keating Shane mc Morish and John mc Dermot made seauerall shots from the said howse against the english And further saith that one Thomas Roach Michaell Luffan, William Britt and one Spurron which were none of the said Redmonds houshould seruants were that day in the said Redmonds howse and had musquets powder & or other Armes giuen them respectiuely by the said Mr Redmond or brought by themselues thither wherewith they were wished by him the said Mr Redmond to defend the howse in & that the examinant & the rest of the said Redmonds seruants were then in <s> Armes some with swordes, other with pikes & other Armes giuen & appointed them by their said master And further saith that in the selfe same day there Came a party of the Irish in Armes to the said Mr Redmonds hall & fought with and killed about one hundred of the english & tooke one Lieutenant Esmond & about fourteen of the english party prissoners & the fight being ended the said Redmond opened his gates and receiued into his howse the Irish officers and souldyers that had killed the english as aforesaid, and gaue vnto the said Irish drinke His cause of knowledge is for that the deponent was a seruant in the said howse & an eye witnes to the said actions seauerally
<To the 5: 6: 7: 8 & 9th inter> Hee cannot depose
<To the 10th inter> Hee deposeth and saith that Michaell Keating Redmond sonne to the said Allexander was in the said howse at the time the english were opposed & to the best of the deponents <t> remembrance the said Michaell had a fowling peice which as he beleiues he vsed in shooting that day out of the castle against the english
<To the 11th interr> Hee Cannot depose

<To the 12th> The examinant deposeth that the said Allexander had & receiued some of the Armes that bellonged to the english that were killed as aforesaid vizt some musquets but how many he Cannot remember The deponents cause of knowledge is for that the deponent did see the said musquets after the fight in the said howse <u> & knoweth that they did not formerly bellong to the said howse & for that the said Shane mc Morrish did shew this examinant one of the musquets which he had gotten in his hand that did bellong to the english as aforesaid, by whom the said musquets were brought into the howse he knoweth not.
<To the 13th inter> Hee Cannot depose and further saith not &c
