The Examinacion of John Carne of wexford Baker aged 47 yeeres or thereabouts taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Commonwealth concerninge John Rooth of St Maries parish in Wexford merchant vpon the Interrogatoryes Exhibitted on the behalfe of he said Commonwealth
<To the 1st Interrogatory> saith that the said Rooth Lived in wexford in the begining of the Rebellion in 41 and there continued his residence vntill the towne was taken by his highnes the Lo: Protector where he lived vntill the the tyme of the mortallity and which was att May <i> next followinge and then went out of the towne and dyed on his owne mortgadge att the old windmill neere the towne but saith that the said Rooth might have removed as Rous Davyes and others did into the English quarters in the begininge of the Rebellion
<To the 2d Interrogatory> Saith not: that
<To the 3d Interrogatory> The Examinant deposeth that he beleeves that the said John Rooth did contribute his proporcion of publique levies as the deponent and other of the Inhabitants <k> of the towne generally did for mayntenance of the Irish warr against the English
<To the 4th Interrogatory> saith that he hath seene the said John Rooth weare a sword and carry a fire-locke the 1st yeere of Rebellion and soe afterward and was in the towne when the same was stormed and <l> taken by the Lo: Protectors Armie
<To the 5th> Saith that the said Rooth was a principall man att all or most of the publique meetings an his cause of knowledge is that he hath Seene the said Rooth in company with other of the principall men of the <m> towne att a treaty with generall Prestons officers about two yeeres before the Lo: Protector tooke the same
<To the 6th Interrogatory> he beleeveth that the said Rooth was one of the County Councell and gaue his vote for the Ellectinge <n> of members or Burgesses for the Provincial and Supreame Councell his cause of knowledge is that he hath seene him sittinge with the rest of the towne at their meetinges

<To the 9th Interrogatory> saith that the said Jo: Rooth bare office in wexford as Bayliffe 3 or 4 yeeres after the begininge <o> of the Rebellion which office he Executed for one yeere
<To the 10th Interrogatory> saith that said John had twoo brethren vizt Patrik Rooth and James Rooth and one servant whose name this deponent knoweth not who he mayntained & sent to sea in a ffriggitt and receaued their shares <p> of all plundering and prises by them brought in his cause of knowledge is that he hath seene goodes taken att sea carried in packes seuerall tymes into the said Rooths house

<To the 12th Interrogatory> saith that said John Rooth was a chiefe buyer of powder plunder att sea and all prises that came in dureinge the warr from the first <q> yeere his cause of knowledge is that in the first yeere of the Rebellion he saw the said Rooth buy powder from Capten Antonio
