The Examination of William Stafford Ge{ntleman} <11> taken in behalfe of the Commonwealth Concerning Marcus Esmond of Rathlonone Gentleman desess{ed} and Pat John Esmond sonne and heire of the said Marcus now of Rathlonone
<to the first interro> sath that Marcus Esmond did in the first yeare of the warr and sence till his death liue in Rathlonone aforesaid in the Irish quarters and that John <f> did in the yeare aforesaid liue with his at [ f a the r] featherd in the Irish quarters as this deponent remember s in the howse of Mr Nickolas Loftus in the Irish quarters and english protestant that was fled and that both the said partyes might haue remoued themselues to the English Quarters as some other English did but not without losse of Estate
<to the 2 interr> he Can not depose
<to the 3 interro> sath that he is Confident that the said Marcus and John did actually Contrebute to the <g> maintaince of the Irish forces in the then publicke taxes of this Countye in the first yeare of the warr and before the 10th of Nouember 1642
<to the 4: 5 and 6th interrogatoryes> he Can not depose
<to the 7th interro> shee sath that he beleiueth that the said Mar Marcus and John did in the first yeare of <h> the warr take and subscribe the oath of associacion it beinge generally impossed on all persons

<to the 9th interro> sath that he beleiueth that the said John Esmond was a souldier or officer vnder the command of Captain <James> Downes in the first yeare of the warr and the Cause of his Knowledge is in that this <i> deponant did see the said John at featherd in Company of the said Downes and had his dependency on the said Downes
<to the 10th and 11th interrogatoryes> he Can not depose
<to the 12th interro> sath that it is very Probable that the said John had in his posession seauerall of the goods of the English that were liued <k> at feathered and there abouts the Cause of this deponants knowledge is because that hee being Clarke to the Countye Councell heard the said Downes apply himselfe to the said Counsell for meanes for his Company whoe was answerd by the said Counsell that he and his Company had got plunder anugh to sattisfye them, of who of the Englishm<ens> goods and by the benefet of feathered of which Number the said John was one as this deponant beleueth
