The Examinacion of John Crafford of wexford Chaunler aged about fiftie yeares taken vpon oath on the behalfe of the Comonwealth Concerning Nicholas Hay of Wexford Alderman deceased
<To the 1st Interr> The Examinant deposeth & saith that the said Nicholas liued in the towne of wexford during the whole time of the rebellyon & did not remooue into the english quarters <a> As the english & protestants then dwelling at wexford (then being of the Irish quarters) did & saith that the said Nicholas was in the said towne when it was stormed where he the said Nicholas was killed by the english Army
<To the 2d Interr> The deponent cannot the examinant cannot depose
<To the 3d Inter> Hee deposeth and saith that he is confident the said Nicholas did the first yeare of the rebellyon and sithence did actually contribute & pay his proporcion of all taxes <b> Imposed on the towne ffor the maintaining the warre against the english as the rest of the Inhabitants did This deponent being an Inhabitant in the towne at that time
<To the 4th 5th & 6th Inter> Hee cannot depose
<To the 7th Interr> The deponent saith that he beleiues the said Nicholas did take the oath of associacion as others of the towne <c> did it being a generall thing
<To the 8th Inter> Hee cannot depose
<To the 9th Inter> The examinant saith that to his personall knowledge the said Nicholas was Mayor of the towne of wexford on <d> or about the yeare 1645.
<To the 10th Interr> The deponent saith that the said Nicholas had a sonne by name Gerrald Hay, which said Gerrald was in actuall Armes in the towne of wexford against the english, & As well diuers yeares before, as at the storming thereof by <e> the Lord generall Cromwells Armie when and where the said Nicholas being in Armes was killed as aforesaid
