Nouember the 24th 1652
The exsamanation of John Quarry of Capoquene aged aboute twentie six years beinge duly sworne and exsamaned saith that Phillip Numan A truper of Capton ffenils of the Irish partie beinge of a Conuoy to an ofiser of the parliments from Clanmell to Capoquene inuited Hew Croaker and Hew Giles & George Giles & Ensigne Coale to goe to make merrie att Mowntan Castle & to bring sum tobacc which they wanted hauinge noe Comarce with the English and vndertoke with his Life and estate that they should returne safe wheare uppon they went to the place att the time appoynted and after they had bene thare sum time and weare returninge Capton ffennell with <A> his troupe of hors fell uppon them & they retreatinge with others in thare Company to the aforesaid Castle the Gouerner thare one Capton Darby Magrath who all the tim had kept compnay with them drew oute his muskitears and shott att them & soe forsed them back to Capton ffennell who promised them quarter butt after toke one of them by name of Richard Rylay a souldier of Capton Croakers & one John Mackwilliam A tunsman of Capoquen & hanged them and Murthered Ensigne Coale & A Butcher & one Clemencs The cawse of his knowledge is that Leftenant Hew Croaker and his Brother Barrie & Hew Giles & John Shipard and ffrancis Thorne & Stephen Batman Related the abuesaid particklers vnto this exsamaned after thare release they haueinge bene taken prisoners by the afor said ffennell att that time & of the Company Aboue mentianed & this exsamaned further saith that all this was comited after that the Earle of Corke had brought ouer the Sessation but in what month he remembereth nott butt saith at that time the Irish drew of [ ] thare seage from Lismower and further saith note
