The Examination of William Blake of Clonmull in the Conty of Tipperary taiken the 25th of August 1652
This Examinant aged seuenty yeares or theyr abouts being sworne and examined saith that formerly he haith bin an inhabitant in Collin for the space of twenty two yeares & was theyr Resident att the breking out of the rebellion <A> in the yeare 1641 & that he was own one of those that was beseged in the Castell aforesaid about in which Castell theyr were of men women & Chilldren bettwen eleuen & twelue score all of them being Mr Warters of Cull i n his teneants & some other English and protestantts which fled thether for Security he further saith that the said Castell was then beseiged by the Lo: of Castellconellesly Lt Coll William Bourke of Pollardstown in the County of Limbricke & Peirce Welsh of Abbyony, in the County of Limrike & seuerall others whom this Deponent Knoweth not, & that the said Seige Continved vntell about the midle of August 1642, being & he further saith that som of the English being men women & Chilldren being necesitated went forth of the said Castell on about the first of August 1642 to gather Corn of whom some of the said rebells Murtherd about thirty three & wonded sixtenn who returned returnd into the said Castell, and further saith that Garett English of Gortover & Eustace English ofdid Kill had a hand in the Killing of Josias Brome, and further saith that Richard mc William William mc Richard of Arsencan did Confes he had a hand in the Murthering of Brome aforesayd, and further saith that they who maintained the saime Castell weare not officers nor souldiers inlisted or payd by the state, & that among them wayr fore score seruisable men, that the Castell was surrendered vppon Artacells which were performed to them & further saith not.
