The Examination of Mr Maurice Browne Concerneing Dauid Connell that lived at Carrick Towell, concerne= <A> the death of Ensigne Cooke,
Beinge examined uppon oath sayth,
That hee mett with the sayd David Connell neare his house at Barreys Courte aboute Nouember in the yeare of our lord one thousand six hundred forty three, in the first Cessation of this last rebellion, And the s a i d deponent desired the said Dauid Connell to Come in to his howse and hee did soe. The sayd deponent asked the sayd Dauid Connell did you kill Ensigne Cooke; The sayd Connell tould the deponent hee fell in Companie with the sayd Ensigne Cooke at Cur Abbey, and Comeing with the sayd Ensigne Cooke from Curr Abbey to Carrick Towell, in the high way as they rode the said Connell tould the deponent hee did unhorse him And there kild him: and drew him out of the high way into the ffurzes, and there left him: And tould the deponent that hee had sent two men to bury him, and that they should haue his Cloathes for the doeinge of it; The deponent Answered o what a bloudy act was that done of you, The deponent sayinge I thanke my God I neuer did shed anie drop of bloud, not as much as breakeinge of anie mans head since this warr. The said Dauid Connell Answered that hee had rather then that Castle full of Gould that he Could say soe, And the sayd Connell did further Confesse to the deponent, that hee was in Companie, with one John DrumAdda and others, who slew diuers English men, within fourteen dayes betweene Curr Abbey and Youghall,

The deponent sayth that his desire to speake with him at that by time was, to see if hee Could get anie of his <C> horses and Cowes which the sayd Connell had taken from him, but beinge weary of his Englishe that bloudy discourse left his Companie and further sayth not/
