The Examination of John Burroughes aged 40 yeares, taken 9o Sept: 1652
Saith that he hath Credibly heard that his ffather was protected by mc ne Crinin, & in his Castle, and he hath certainly heard, that he was hanged & his mother, two Brothers, by Mc Cartyes Comand, <A> And about some 2 yeares & halfe since, he this Examinant was at Timoleague where McCarty Reagh Captain Sweet & others were then present, and this Examinant taxed McCarty Reagh, for the death of his father & Mother Buroughs &c. McCarty then said, that vpon the report, of Kilbritten Castle being then taken by the English & he being then att Timoleague Bridge goeing to releeue the same, Mc ne Crimen mett mc Carty vpon the way, on the topp of the hill, aboue Killcoursy wood, and among other discourse he the said mc ne Crimen told the said McCartie he had John Burroghs & this Examinants mother &c. in his hand, and asked what he should doe with them, to whom mc Carty Replied; doe with them what you please, for me! And the said <B> McCarty Reagh said, that indeed he was at that time passionate, & v x t vext, for the losse, of his Castle & therevpon he said those words! And this Examinant further saith, that mc ne Crimin said he had an order, from McCarty to remoue him out of his power, And this Examinant farther saith not!
