The Examination of Richard Slabogh of Muckrompe about 35 yeares of age taken the 18th of September 1652
<Saieth> Thatt about Lammass in the 2d sommer of the warres (as this Examinantt remembreth) there was a party of English to the number of foureteene (videlizt) Henry Hussey & Katherine Hussey, And <A> Mrs Crocker, & Mary Crocker her daughter and one George a Miller & his wife and Charles Vavisler & his wife & two Children, and one Ellen Coleman & her Childe, and one John Smalman a Nayler; and a Collier (whose name this Examinant (doth not know) with (this Examinantts mother in Lawe) Mrs Hussey sent from Muckrompe by the Lord Muskeryes appointment And as they were goeing on the way from Muckrompe to Corke two myles before they came to kilmurry he this Examinantt sawe when doctor O Healy mett with the party & the Convoy, And heard him aske John Smalman the Nayler what Trade he was who answered A Nayler, where vpon the doctor replyed that is well, I will Imploy you you to make Nailes for me, the Nayler replyed, noe Sir I haue come soe farre on my Journey, and I haue freinds at Corke and at Tallow, and (if it please god) I will goe to them: And he further sayeth that at the same place he heard the foresaid doctor speake to the foresaid Collier & aske him what trade he was, to which he answered, that he was a Collier: To the which the doctor replyed thats well, I will employ you two one to make Coales & the other to make nailes. And this examinant farther sayeth that when they passed two myles from further vpon the Lands of kilmurry he this Examinantt sawe & heard the foresaid doctor bid the <B> Nayler goe along with him, And the poore Nayler kneeled him downe on his knees & begged him for the Lords sake to lett him goe alonge with his Companye) And this Examinantt further sayeth that he this Examinantt spake to the doctor & asked him what he had to doe to keepe the poore man from the rest of his Companye, to which the doctor replyed, what is that to you, you may goe about your busines: And this Examinant sayeth that about two myles further, donnough O Reardan (who commaunded the Convoy) caused them a ll to stay vntill all the Companye were come together, And this Examinatt there looked particularly for the Collier & Nayler but could see neither of them: And he further sayeth that the foresaid Reardane wished the Convoy that came from Muckrompe to retorne backe for it was dangerous for them to goe further, And further sayeth that those that came belonged to the warde at Blarny & the said Reardane & one Mlaughlyn O Boholy & this Examinantt went neare the fford of Ballca rn i ering Ahan Boy, And this Examinantt further sayeth that there came foure or fiue

More of Blarny warde to them a little before they came at the foresaid fford. And when they came at the foresaid fford the said donnough O Reardan bid this Examinantt & Mlaughlan O Boholy goe backe, for he would ingage his life for their security, & send Musqueteers along with them soe farre as Ahan Boy, within a myle of Corke: And further sayeth that <C> Murtogh Oge Reardane told this Examinantt that hee seeing some men in the Bogg of Ballinhaneeingy went to them where he found them murthering the Examinantts his Mother in Lawe his sister & his Brother, And that he endeavored to preserue his sister in lawe but could not: And further sayeth that the names the said Murtogh told him, that the names of those that Murthered his Mother in Lawe his sister & his brother as aforesaid was donnough o Long of Anahaleigh & John Long, who is dead, and some others whose names he doth not remember: And further sayeth that (as he was informed) the residue of the foresaid English partly was slaine in the same place was slaine & by the foremencioned partyes: And further sayeth that the foremencioned Collier & Nayler was hanged that very day (as he was informed) with in halfe a myle of the place where the foresaid doctor tooke the Nayler from his Company And about a Month after this Examinantt goeing that way mett with one that liued about kilmurry (whose name he remembreth not) that shoed him the tree where the foresaid Collier & Nayler were hanged & a saw pitt close by where they were buried, and told this examinatt doctor Healy caused them to be hanged: And further sayeth not:
