The Examinacion of Rich: Archbold of Muckrompe about 52 yeares of Age: taken the 18th of September 1652
<Sayeth> That a little before Lammas in the 2d summer of the warrs (as he remembreth) there was a party of the English to the Number of foureteene (vizt) Mrs Hussey & Henry Hussey & Katherine Hussey her sonne & daughter, & one George a Miller & his wife & Charles Vavislers & his wife & two Children, And one Ellen <A> Coleman & her Childe & one John Smalman & a Nayler and Collier (whose name this Examinantt doth not know) with were sent by the Lord Muskerys apointmentt from Muckrompe towards Corke, And that as they were goeing on the rode (about a myle on this side of kilmurry) this Examinatt see one doctor O healy come come into the party & convoy & went along with them to kilmurry, where the party & the Convoy both stayed at an Alehouse a little space, drinking some beare At which place this Examinant heard the foresaid doctor Aske one of the English men what trade he was (either the Englishmen or some of the Convoy) what trade those men were, to which answere was made, that the one was a Collier & the other a Nayler, (but whither the answere was made by the Collier or the Nayler or some of the Convoy this Examinantt doth not well remember) where to which the doctor replyed, I haue vse for the Nayler, & the Collier shall make him Coales. And this Examinantt further sayeth That as they were goeing a little from the townsend, this Examinantt see the doctor call for the foresaid Collier & Nayler, & I draw them out from the rest of their Company; And he further sayeth that he heard the Nayler begge the doctor for the Lord sake to lett them goe along with their company And being further demanded whither any of the Convoy spoke to the doctor to lett them goe, he answ this Examinantt Answereth All the townsemen of Muckrompe generally that were with the Convoy desired that they might haue gone along with them, but he doth not now remember particularly any one man that spoke: And this Examinantt further sayeth that the heard that the foresaid Collier & Nayler were hanged that day a little distance from the place where the foresaid doctor tooke their them from their Company: And this Examinant further sayeth: that a matter of two myles from kilmurry in

the lands of Colroe, he haueing noe stirrops to his saddle being weary retorned backe, And further sayeth, that the rest of his the townsemen of Muckrompe told him when they came backe that they went almost as farre as Toare Bridge & then donnough O Reardane the Ensigne that Commanded the Convoy Commanded them Backe: And that he heard th within a day or two of after that <A> all the rest of the English were murthered that day between Toure Bridge & Corke, And being demanded who was of that Convoy, sayeth, that he knew noe soldiers but the said donnough O Reardan & donnough O Cunnalane, And the rest were townsemen: And further sayeth the names of the townssemen were Rich: Slabogh, William Slabogh, Mlaughlyn O Bohall, Jeffrey o donnehough, a Tayler, & knougher o Cullanane. And Edmond Boy And this Examinantt & some others whose names he doth not well remember: And further sayeth not:
