The Examinacion of Margrett Lyne about 40 yeares of age & liueing at Iniskeyne Granard, taken the 18th of September 1652
<Sayeth:> That this Examinantt & one deborah fford liueing then with John Smyth vpon the Lands of Gurteene Roe, about Shrouetide 1641 about which tyme the English were stripped & Murthered vp and Downe the Country, her said Master haueing with drawne himselfe to Bandon Bridge for his better safety sent this Examinant with aboute twelue Cowes to Mr Thomas Roch liueing vpon the next land to be secured for him, And further sayth that dureing her abode at the said Roch’s shee well remembreth that the foresaid deborah went being an English made at the same tyme that this Examinatt was sent to the foresaid Roche’s with the goods aforesaid went to the Castell of Iniskeyne (that was then Garrisoned by the English) for her better security: And this Examinantt further sayeth that dureing her foresaid abode at the foresaid Roches, the said deborah was sent by Leiutenantt Berry (then Commander of the foresaid Castell of Iniskeyne) to the said Roch’s with a letter aboute the sending of some Barley that was due from the said Roch to the said Leiutenantt And shee further sayeth, that the next morneing same night the foresaid deborah brought the letter, the next morneing came [ ] many soldiers thereabouts (vnder whose <A> Command she knowes not (but as she heard they were Commanded by O Donovan & Teige O downy) foure of which said soldiers came violently into the foresaid Thomas Roch’s house & violently tooke away the said deborah & carried her (as this Examinantt heard) to the lands of kinnagh bege & there hanged her: And this Examinantt being demanded what the names of those soldiers were that tooke her soe the said deborah soe away out of the house, answereth she never knew or heard their names: And further sayeth that she heard that one Kataline O Raynaile Reage should take her vp by the knees or middle & lift her vp to him that was hanging of her saying here sonne here sonne: And further sayeth not:
