The Examination of Daniell McOwen Carty prisoner, taken before vs Nouember 26 1652 concerninge the murder of Christopher Colethurst
Who being asked who killed the said Christopher Colethurst saith that If Hee dye Hee will speake the truth which he saith was this; that there were many hands In the killinge of him, that is to saye Teage Duffe John Crimin; Edmund Conelan; and that this examinante gaue him a thrust, And saith that Hee had beene preyed 10 times before by the English and this Examinante was forced to fly; And saith that the said Colethurst was a soldier of the English party that came from Drummanine; and was staid behind his party and was beating a seruant of Edmund Conelanes to whom he gaue 16 blowes with his sword, and that he preyed those parts often; and saith that the said English party (whereof the said Colethurst was one; had) did kill 7 of the Irish that morninge before the said Colethurst was kild, namely younge รด Hea the son of Donogh o Hea John o Munhan; an old man of 80 yeeres of age whom they kild in his house & Daniell Bane, which were two none of them in armes; and this examinante saith that at that time. He was a Captaine of the traineband, and that the whole barony had others to stand vpon there guard, euery parish to defend it selfe and to keepe their goods;
