The Examination of Elizabeth Allen of the City of Corke taken the 7th of September 1652
<1.> This Examinant being sworne saith That about the begining of March last she together with Lieutenant Daniel Petley { } others on the high way betweene Mallow & Corke neere at Batlehill in the Barony of Fermoy no were sett vpon by five of the Enemy & by them then & there taken haveing quarter promised given them, & being promised to be caried prisoners to Rosse Castle in Kerry: And being haveing caried them about one mile & halfe farther, the said Rebells asked the said Petly where he was borne, & whose sonne he was: he answered that he was borne at Carigalyne (in the Co: of Corke) & that he was the sonne of old Petly: there upon they said his father was a rogue & did bidde him put of his clothes intending to kill he And to although notwithstanding that he chalenged the quarter given him, & offred five pounds for his ransome or a prisoner in exchange, they imedeatly stripped hem naked & then murthered him. She further saith that they also attempted to kill her this deponent, but god spared her so as they spared her life, takeing all she had & let letting her goe. She farther saith that the chiefe of the said Rebells who acted the said murther with the rest was John <A> Barry one of the Lo: of Muskerry party & of Captain Maho{} troope as he himselfe told her & that this Examinant about five weekes since did mee{t} the said Barry at Carigadruit & chalenged him of the said fact, who thereupon tooke her out of Company, & as{ked} her whether the man then slaine were her husband she answered noe: then (said he) do not you take a{ } my life for I saved youres. This Examinant farther saith <B> that she knoweth also that the sonne of a scholemaster liveing at kilcrea [ ] was one in that company & acting in the said murther, whom this examinant did also challenge for that bloody action the same time that she challenged Barry as aforesaid

aforesaid, who acknowledged the fact in the presence of Anne Pe t ly of Corke the wife of the said Petl y of Corke; & with all named the persons that were actors ner there in, whose names this Examinant hath forgottin. And farther saith not.
