The Examinacion of Cormuck o Daly sworne the 9o of Sept: 1652
Saith that he went to Kilbrittan Castle in the first beginning of the Rebellion, and was vnder the Comand of Capten Bryan mc Swiny Bellogh, who Comanded the said Castle when McCarty Reagh was absent! and as this Examinant remembreth, <A> he went with his Capten and about 100 men more into Coursees Country, the occasion of their goeing forth was as this Examinant saith to stoppe one John & one Justice, who was carrying his goods to Kinsale, but he the said Justice was gone ere they came, And this Examinant saith that some seuen or eight of mc Swynys soldiers went to one Mr Stepnies house, which was, not farre distant from the said John Justice howse, and this Examinant Confesseth that he tooke two horses & two Cowes out of Mr Stepnies garden, which adjoined to his howse & carried them horses to kilbritten, and the Cowes he gaue to Teige mc Ennis, who swore the cowes were his, but this Examinant he thought the Cowes were Stepines, till the said Ennis came after him; & this Examinant saith that Teige mcEnnis dwells at Durr <B> Durres-Black, a tenant to the Lord Coursie And this Examinant saith the horses he sent backe to the Lord Coursee! whose he saies they were! And this Examinant saith that ffinyn mc kidee, one of the cheifest of those men that went to Mr Stepnies house, brought the said Mr. Stepny out of his house, about a muskett shott off or more! and this Examinant being running after his 2 horses the said mc finyn mc kidee called aloud to him, & said that Stepny was so weake that he could not goe along, & that he would kill him rather then Carry him along with him; & that he was, more sorry for Mr Mahone, & knoghor รด Cohig, that was killd yesterday! And this Examinant saith that therevpon they killd the said Stepny <C> And that ffynyn mc Kydee was the man thatt killd him; for that no one of them had a sword to doe it, but he & this Examinants are one more they had at Mr. Stepnes and this Examinant being farther demanded

saith, that he knowes ffynyn mac kidee killed him, by rea{son} <C> that he called aloud to him! and that it was re-ported among them credibly, that ffynin mc Kydee did kill the said Stepny; And this Examinant saith, that he advized ffynin mc Kidee rather to Carry home mc Stepny to kilbrittaine Castle, then to kill him & he might get 20 li. for his Ransome! And this Examinant saith no farther.
