The Examinacion of Phillipp Roch of Polelong in the County of Corke gent aged thirty two yeares or thereabout
Whoo hee being Examined saieth That in or about the month of Aprill 1642 There was an Assembly of the Irish Gentrye at Ballgool{ey} in the County of Corke which they held there in order to theire owne difence against the Irish that were in Armes at Muskerye at which were present Phillipp Barry oge John Long of Mountlong Esquire James Roch of Kinure gent and most of the cheife of the Gentrye of the Country but theire particular names hee remembreth not and that he this Examinante was there alsoe present And saieth that the said Assembly was called by order and authoritye of the then Lord President St Leiger as hee conceiueth And saieth That hee doth not remember or kno{we} of any Act or Order made or acted their by the said Assembly, neither was any order there taken for the mainteyninge of any soldiers.
Saieth That hee never heard of any Exec{ution} of any person either English or other nor any order then given for the Execucion any vntill about a moneth since hee heard of that summe were then

Executed vizt Twoe Children that were throwne over a Cliffe and that some <B> English persons were then there hanged by Captain Soogan partye and Donnogh Encoan which Captain Soogan is since dead but whether the said Captain Soogan or the said Donnogh Enroan bee living nowe or noe hee knoweth not. And saieth, That hee never knew Robert Beare or his wife Pasqyun Trudgeon <B> Pasqun Dalbeare nor John Lett malone nor Williams nor any of theire Children or servants and saieth that the Castle of Ballygoely did then belong to one John Younge of Kinsale and lyeth within two myles of Kinsale aforesaid. And that that the place where the said Assembly was held was about a quarter of mile from the Castle of Ballygoely
