The Examination of Captain Joseph Salmon of of Glandore in the Co: of Corke taken September 9. 1652.
This Examinant sworne, saith that about January 1641 he this ex{aminant} then liveing at the Castle of Glandore aforesaid, & riding abroade together with John Vincent, & Henry Hull, & beeing on their returne back to the said Castle & within a quarter of a mile {of it}they were way-layd by about fifty of the Irish all then neighbours to this Examinant, & some of them haveing beene that very morneing { } at the said Castle converseing with him in a friendly manner { } in former times. that by a shott made by the said party two of the horses were killed, the said Vincent, & Hull did ride, who where were there{ } taken by the said Irish: & he the Examinant labouring his Es{} was followed. & taken, & brought back to the place wher{ } said Vincent & Hull were where t he he did se the said Vincent stripped naked, & miserably wounded, have received (as the examinant beleeveth) above 20 wounds: And { } Examinant desireing that he the said m ight Vincent might be spared, { } said he was a sullen English rogue, & there withall gave { }other wounds, & dragged him by the heeles being yet al{ } & cast stones upon him & so buried him. That he {} & the said Hull continued prisoners with the said rebells five { } vntill the they found an opportunity for Escapeing from them.{}Examinant farther saith that of the persons before mentioned active aforesaid in the said murther & in there that company {he} remembreth Tege oge mc Carty alias donevand of then {of}<A> Cargliffe, William รด Murroghoe dermot roe donevand, {donogh} mcmurrogh, Richard mc Murrogh, Daniel mc Ranell, all of the barony of Carbery, the distinct places of theire respective residence this Examiannt now knoweth remembreth not, but saith that he knoweth whereabout they may be found: & that there were then with them severall others whose names he remembreth not.
This Exa{minant furth}er saith, that about March followeing Peter drum{ }, John Behena, one Anthony, & Elizabe{th} { } {}ueing in a boate from Castlehaven to Glan{ } were about the Garry, sett upon by the Irish

Irish, & being promised quarter they delivered up themselves <B> vnto the said Irish who caried them to the shore, & kept them some some time, & caried them about 4 miles farther into the Country whom they after murthered contrary to the quarter given them: That one Murtagh Moynagh of the Gartin aforesaid (where now he Liveth) did murther the said Elizabeth Norman as this Examinant was after informed by some of the Irish liveing thereabout: but what were the names of the rest of that party this Examinant knoweth not; but saith that he doubteth not upon farther enquiry into the busines that the particulars with be more fully discovered. And farther saith not at present.
