18o No: 1652 The examinacion of donnough mc Ranell Rieagane of Lysslee aged 42 yeares or thereabouts
Hee being duly sworen and examined sayth That the next day after the Slaughter at Clonnakilty when the Lo: fforbus went to relieue Mr. ffreake in the Raghbarry Castle an English man as this Examinant supposeth one of the said Lo: fforbus his soldiers was brought to Lysslee & one Thomas Hodnett & Brien mc Nieghane came to this Examinant howse he then lyinge sicke & desired to borrow a rope to hang that English man: this Examinant replyed they should haue none there wherevppon they went to the next doore to him; to one donnough Carties howse & there they gott one, which this examinant hauinge notice off it (and a garran of his beinge at his doore) he gott vpp vppon that garran & followed the said Tho: Hodnet & Bryan Ô Neeghane, to beg the English mans lyffe vntill Mr William Barry their Landlord & master came home to Lisslee (whose cominge was dayly expected) but ere he came to them, they had putt the rope in a noose about his necke & one of them went into the Tower of lyslee & thother threw vpp thother end of the rope to him into a windowe & lifted vpp the said soldior or English man & so hanged him (notwithstanding all the entreaty this examinant could vse to the sauinge of him,)
