The Exam: of Gar Mary Hodnett (aged 28 yeares) taken vpon oath the viij of September 1652
Saith That shee was at Kilbritten Castle in the first beginning of the Rebellion, and at such time, as Bryan mc Swinny was in Comand and Capten of the garrison there, vnder the Com m and of McCarty Reagh [ ] and this Examinant saith, that shee saw diverse of the English people hangd vpon the gallowes which was erected before Kilbritten Castle, as namely, one Goosam, and his son, about 12 yeares of age, a servant of William ffullers, and two poore Englishmen more, of Courseys Country, that were taken, as they were ga endeavoring to gett some subsistence in the Country: And this Examinant saith that the aboue said Goosam after he was taken, was kept in the Castle about A fortnight ere they hang’d him, and though he made many pitifull lamentations, & entreaties to spare his life, & that he would doe any drudgery for & amongst them, yet it would not be granted and among others he begd this Examinant to gett his request, moued to McCartys wife, which was done whereto shee (mcCartys wife) answered, twas a busines that <B> did not concerne her; And this Examinant saith, that one of the abouesaid, (vizt) Goosams son, after he was hangd & put in the ditch with a litle earth vpon him, that he was the next morning aliue, and struggling to get out! but one of the soldiers observing & hearing him groane, stabd him, & so vtterly kild him, And this Examinant further saith that the Gallowes was erected before Kilbritten Castle about a fortnight (as shee remembreth) before) these persons were hangd, & shee being ffurther examined saith, that McCarty Reagh

did vsually goe to and from that garrison (staing a night or so, in Kilbrittan Castle!) though he Constantly did not reside there <C> but his wiffe Lady and Children Continued Att Kill=britten, till some 3 or 4 daies before the Castle was taken by the english;
This Examinant farther saith that shee heard it reported by the Irish in the Castle Timoleague that one Burroughes & his wife were hanged by Mc ne Crimin, and farther saith not!
