<X 6> William Justice of the docke neare Kinsale being 50 yeares sworne & examined saith he knew one William Gussam that was seruant to Mr Marsh of Oldcourt, whoe was carryed from his masters house to Kilbrittan (MacCarty Rea haueing being then there Commaunding thereof) by some of the said McCartys men, & there he was hanged Alsoe the deponent saith that other english people were taken vp trauelling out of the west & hanged at Kilbritten And further saith that he knew Mr John Stepney for he was this deponents next neighbours & at the begining of the warres there came seuen men from Kilbritten belonging to McCarty Rea, to the said Stepnys plowmen that were plowing & asked for their master whoe answered he was within; wherevpon they went & fetch’t him out of his house, & murthered him, vpon James Carnyes Land. the names of those seuen he knowes not, but he hath heard one Teige o Skannell was one of them & saith that the old gentleman was butchered murthered in the in most cruell miserable manner that euer was seene. And this deponent saith that daniell Mahoone, & teige mc Ennis & his sonnes can giue <g> further euedence. And this deponent further saith that one Arthur Glanfield was murthered by some of McCarty Reas Company vpon Kilmoore the Land that Carny aforesaid and saith that there was th one John Lawrence, & two young men more murthered on John Brownes land, by McCartys party & one of their heads carryed to Kilbrittan. all which murthers
