<17> John mc Phillip of Conury Aged 55 yeares or thereabouts being sworne vpon the holy euangelists & duly examined <A> saith, that he remembers that at the begining of the Rebellion in Ireland when the irish first arose, there was an assembly of the irish there t he Chife Commmand the at Belgooly neare Kinsale, the chiefe commanders were John Long of Mountlong then high shreffe, Phillip Barry of Ringcor James og Roche of Kinnury, James Mellafont of Watersland, dauid og Rea, Richard Roche fitz John of Arclone, Pers Goggan of Ballynicourt John Roche of Ballinrosicke, Richard Barry of Ballynifoyle, & Mallaghline o Line, Garret Newgent of Kilcummeene, & James Newgent of Ardmartin. And this deponent saith he knew Robert Beere & his wife & children, of Oyster hauen; for he was his neighbour to them 16 yeares & when the fore{said} assembly were at Belgooly aforesaid the said Robert Beere & his wife were sent for thither to Belgooly by John Lerry by one by a kinsman of his [ ] John Long viz donough o Coughlan alias boy, kinsman to the <B> said Longg to Belgooly, where they were hanged as this deponent was told but t his deponent was then not not present for he was, and saith that the foremencioned gentlemen were the cause of the death of the said Beer & his wife, for they ga u e order for it were all about the n) but this deponent knowes not of any cause that they hanged them ha d soe to doe for he was a Ciuill honest man one that the n neuer did wrong to any man one the cause of <the cause of> this Deponents knowledge is that he carryed some meate to a sonne in law of his (vizt) dermond o Gury, whoe was a soldier there and saith there was one Pasqua, & good man Lettamalon hanged at Bellgooly likewise, also saith, there was one John Cooke kild at Ballyloe, by James Newgent liueing neare Court a Lee. And <C> further this deponent saith that when Beer & his wife were carryed to Bellgooly as aforesaid s h Beers wife desired Katherine Leery to keepe the children till her returne, & giue them victualls; but at whereupon the said Katherine tooke them to her owne house; & 3 or 4 dayes after there came Edmond mc Morris Roche & one Teige o Collinan two of the Belgooly soldiers & tooke the children from the said Katherines house & told her they would carry

Carry them to their mother, & soe tooke wherevpon the said Katherine followed after them, till they wish’t her to goe backe; afterwards they threw them her children ouer a rocke; & one of the said soldiers returned & fetched <D> the Caddoe & clothes that belonged to the children; & saith that the said Katherine Leery liueth at Ring corran now & saith that the foresaid Teige o Collin an before he was shott , told this deponent, that And further saith that the foresaid Edmond William Mellafont dauid Mallefont & Garrett Mallefont & Phillip Mallefont were at Bellgooly Campe, & were in armes. And further saith not.
