<x 18> Alice Williams aged 70 yeares or there abouts beinge sworne & examined saith that vpon a monday in lent in the first yeare of the warres, she & her husband were fetched out of their house at the Garry, by certaine irish persons that came <E> from Belgooly neare Kinsale; as she did vnder stand) a like one of them was John Longs son of Mount Long) as she did beleeue; & they carryed them to Belgooly & kept them in the top of the Castle as prisoners from Monday till fryday, in which kept time Robert Beere & his wife & one Pasqua were brought thither likewise as prissoners and the same day night following one whereof two men came vp with haren ropes in their hands & tooke this deponents husband & bound his hands, & likewise bound Robert Beare & his wife together, & alsoe bound the said Pasqua & carryed them downe into a lower roome; where they hang’d them one after another: afterwards this deponent with a small infant on her backe, & Pasqua’s wife were put into a darke roome & there kept prisoners neare vpon six weekes, about which time there came

came a man to this deponent saying I am come for <B> yow to bring yow to the Campe, the Lord Barry og hath sent for yow wherevpon this deponent replyed that she desir’d to speake with him, & therevpon went along with the said man, to the assembly of irish about a furlong of the Castle; but neither then nor before could she be permitted to speake with the said Barry og but there she saw James Mellafont of Waters land whome she well knewe Th and about fifty irish gents more, of the Barrony of Kinalea, & parts adiacent whome she did now know and further this deponent saith that the foresaid Robert Beer had two daughters whoe were after wards morthered, by some persons belonging to the foresaid assembly but where she knowes not. And being further examined said by whose order the foresaid persons were hanged saith that she then knew not, but since in the yeare of sessation and in the market place of Kinsale the foresaid Pasqua’s wife told this deponent this is the fellow that hang’d your husband (poynting at a seruants to John Longs of Mountlong then present; wherevpon this deponent asked the said Longs man why he hanged her husband who answered he was Commanded soe <C> to doe; & therevpon went came away & further saith not the deponent saith not.
