The Examinacion of Samson Moore Moore ( aged 54 yeares) taken vpon oath the 11o of Sept. 1652
<1> Saith that in the Beginning & first yeare of the Rebellion he this Examinant was in kilcrea prisoner there with his wife & 4 children & that they were taken by Capten James Long, who liues betwe about <A> Kilarey, & not suffred to paste to Corke as they were goeing, notwithstanding they had the Lord of Muskerry’s paste; as they were brought backe, to Balliniglastin, where formerly this Examinant dwelt! he this Examinant was told by the way of the murder of Robert Scott his wife, & 3 daughters, (Cicely, mary & sara) done And this Examinant saith that all the Country said they were murdered by William Morphee the Cheife Actor, who had the said Scott &c. with his goods in his Custody; and this Examinant saith that there were 14 men & women that were at the murdering of them, as he credibly heard, and they were of the name of the ô Realyes, and this Examinant saith, that he saw the goods of the said Scott, in the hands of the said William Morphee And that the said Morphee, & his wife, & his Children, did to this Examinants knowledge, weare the Cloathes of the said Scott his wife, & children after they were murdered, & had more of their goods & prouision in his houses; And this Examinant saith that at the first, Scott &c. wer vnder the custody of Donogh mc Dermond of Killmurrey, and afterwards, by the entising inducement of William Morphee, he remoued to his, (the said Morphees) house, and after a while he the said Morphee removed much of his goods to Castle moor, & therewith remoued the cheife, & most of the said Scotts Goods. to <B> And the night following they murdered the said Scott & his ffamily, and As this Examinant reporteth, saith, he heard it credibly spoken amongst the Irish, then, that then the Rogues Ravished 2 of the said Scotts Daughters before they murdered them, and that Scotts wife being a lusty woman & passionatley moued, with these outrages towards her husband & daughters, Stroue & fought with them, to murderers for the preservacion of them, but therein shee was wounded by them, & therewith falling downe, before shee was dead, they threw her & the rest, into a saw pitt, and Scotts wife yet aliue they threw earth vpon her, & buried her; And this Examinant farther saith that one of these Rogues as he was told, was hanged by the Lord of Muskery for this fact

and that 3 or 4 more, were in the stocks in the village (where this Examinant then dwelt) and about the same fact, and that the aforesaid William Morphee (and Dermond ô Teige (since dead) let them out!
And this Examinant saith farther that in the said first yeare of the warre about Michaelmas, one Donogh o Knogher, who then liued, at Kilcrea, are now at David Gallaway’s house in Inchinegealea, <C> brought this Examinant a colored hat to dresse, and he told this Examinant that it was the hat of one John Woods nere Kargaline, whom he told this Examinant that, he the said Donogh ô Knogher had kild killed with his owne hands; And this Examinant saith that, the said Knohor did about 3 quarters of a yeare after, quarrell with this said Examinant about the said hat, & had like to haue killed him, for it, though it appeared, that he this Examinant did formerly deliuer him the same!
And this Examinant saith that by the Relacion of the Country one Phillip Hill an Englishman & his son, & son in law, were <B> <D> hangd by the ô Leeryes, the said Hill, was hangd with his son by them; & his son in Law, John Oakly was hangd about Iniskarra by some of Muskerrys party, after he was carried to the Campe at Rich=fords towne nere Corke the said John Oakly kept the mills at Macrompe, and farther saith not!
