<symbol> Lieutennant Colonel Cnogher ô Callaghan of the Castle Magner in the County of Corke gent twenty nyne years or thereabouts sworne & examined deposeth & saith That about two yeres since the Castle of Liscarroll somtime belonging to Lieutenant generall John Barry was surprised & taken from one Ensigne or Serjeant Jackson (then Comander thereof vnder Capten Coakley) by him this deponent then a Comander of a smalle partie of horse, & by daniell <A> Ô keefe there a Comander of about a squadron of foote And the same Castle was then & there burned, & about fowre or five English men whoe had been then houlders thereof, slayne, But whoe those parties slayne were he cannott tell for they were slayne by the partie Comanded by the said daniell O keefe, Whoe forst made entry into the said Castle before this deponent & his horse (whoe in deed Layd in Ambushe) entered thereinto But after the deponents entry he prevented the shedding of any more bloud & in particular saved the Life of one surnamed Griffin alias my Lord, whom fowr souldiers were about to destroy with their swords: And this deponent further saith that before the surprizall of the said Castle, he this deponent had severall Comissions & directions some in writing vnder the Lord of Muskries hand, & others verball, for being Comanders of the twoe Baronies of Dowhalloe, Oridee & kilmore, and for enlargeing his Quarters to what Castles he could <B> & for dealing with them as he pleased: But the said daniell O keefe haveing first layd the plott for surprizeing of the said Castle, & comunicateing the same to him this deponent, hee this deponent having the warrants aforesaid by the Lord of Muskery, directed & advised & advised him to persist therein, which he did accordingly, which said daniell O keefe is now turned Torie
