The Examinacion of Daniel McCarthy about 34 yeares of age, & liueing at Da at forgus in Barretts: taken the 16th of September 1652
Sayeth: That aboute the first summer of the warres he this Examinatt then being in the County of Lymericke or vp & downe in the Country, & not Resident in Barretts is not soe well Able to giue a punctuall accounte of things that hapned at that tyme in those partes: And further sayeth that at his retorne to Barretts he heard it generally reported amongst his owne Tennants & others: that there was a foule Murther done (vizt) the hanging of two poore English men (as they were goeing with a Convoy from Muckrompe to Corke) vpon the Lands bounds of kilmurry in Barretts. And this Examinatt further sayeth that it was generally saide that doctor o healy, of Curnody, should meete the Convoy and the English with it vpon the Lands of Kilmurry, And that the said Doctor should say to some of the Convoy come why doe you trouble yourselfes to carry them further or words to that effect And the foresaid two men were said to be somethinge weary, & were carryed a little a side, & hanged the same day vpon the Lands aforesaid, And the residue of the English that were with the Convoy (the number of them he doth not know) was Murthered that day for the day after (as was generally reported) betwene Corke and kilmurry: And this Examinatt further sayeth that one William Oge Slabogh was said to be one of the cheifest authors of their Murther, And that he doth not know the names of any other of the Convoy that are now aliue: And further sayeth not./.
