<Kinsale ffebruary 23th 1653> Depositions taken Concerninge William Gookan of Ballinhaly of the Barrony Killawhyrie in the yeare 1641
Tho: Dauntt of Cnoghanell in the Barrony of Kinale{a} Aged about 24 yeares beinge sworne and Examined saith that hee Liuinge att CarrigeALine in the Barro{ny} of Killawhirry afforesaid in the yeare 41 that hee knew the afforesaid Gookan Liuinge Liuin att Ballinahaly afforesaid in the y{eare} 41
<1)> That hee might haue Remoued to the English Garris{on} as diuers English of his Neighbours did
<2)> That hee Remoued further into the Irish Quart{er} and Continued forth but of his Cominge in againe this deponent knowes not
<4)> That hee was in Actuall Armes with the Irish the same yeare
That hee kept his Castle with men in Armes Aga{inst} the English the same yeare
<10)> That hee had a Brother named Phillip Gookan th{at} was in Actuall Armes with the Irish the same yea{re}
<11)> That there were English Liuinge neere him Viz William Woods since Kild Natha: Pead died att Cor{ke} Roger Poore since dead John Burtten now Liuinge in the same Barrony and this deponent father Mr William Dauntt now Liuinge in the Barrony Kenelea
The Cause of this deponent knowledge is that itt hee Liued then neere the afforesaid Castle and was for{ced} to flie to Corke for safety and there heard Generally Reported and two well knowne to all the Eng{lish} that were forced to flie for safety as well as hee and farther saith not
