Quartermaster James Birne being deposed saith that upon new yeares day 1641 the first hee was commaunded by Capt: Robert King abroade to bring salt & other necessarys to the guarison of Boyle, & that upon his returne back as hee was goeing, hee mett John o Bruin the e lder carried carrying backe to the Boyle, by [ ] severall
QuarterMaster James Birne being deposed saith that after John o Bruine the elder was Killed, he was very inquissitive of thos that were guilty of his death, & often said publiquely that hee would prosecute them that were guilty of his murder, as earnestly as hee should [ ] if John o Bruine had bin his Brother, whereupon Donnagh o Duff o gheehin sent to him to speake with him, & upon discourse, confessed that hee Kild John o Bruin but the deponent askeing him why hee would kill a man that had never deserved it from any neigbour, the Donagh Duffe replyed that hee was forced to kill <C> him by Cormocke; & that hee told cormocke before hee shott that hee had noe bulletts, & that Cormocke gave him a brace of Bulletts out of his pockett with which hee shott & Kild John o Bruin the elder & further saith not.
