The Deposition of Mr John Braxton prowost of Sligo takne at Sligo the 17o of May 1653.
John Braxton of the agde of fortie yeares or thaireabouts, being duely sworne vpon the holy Ewangelists, and examined, sayth that hee Liwed in Sligo, att the begineing of the rebellion, And that hee this deponent remained with o Connor Sligo att his house Dureing the tyme that the siedge Lay about the Castles in Sligo, and after the surrendring of the Castles hee this Deponent saith that hee remained still in the place the matter of two that the next morneing efter the taking of the Castles, hee was thrust out of O Connor his hous, and remained obscurely in towne till about the tuysday being (as this deponent conceaweth) the alevinth of Januar 1641; att which tyme this Deponent was informed by on John o Marhan (now a horseman in Captain Jones his troop as the Deponent beleeveth) that thair was a murder <A> intended as the said Marhan aprehended, and that hee earnestly desyred this deponent to Leawe the towne for the saftie of his Lyff, whervpon hee this deponent mad an escap into the Countrey; and vpon the thursday followeing the murder was committed by Hugh o Connor Charles o Connor Hugh o Galogher and others: And further sayth not
