The information of Pawl Reed indueller in Blakstaffe In the Baronie of fernie and Cowntje Managhan against Arte Mackmarteen Patrick Mackmarteen James moile mackmachan Edmund Buy ogowne Terluch more Mackardell wpon suspitione of being guiltye of Murthering his wyfe and Children the 15th of Martche 1643.
Imprimis this deponent saith that he having fledde from Blakstaffe at the beginning of the insurrectione wnto Malon in the Cowntje Antrim where he Continued from the 3 of November wntill the first of May next therafter still expecting the Cumming downe of his wyfe and Children, at Last did hazard himself with the Armie that went with the Lord Connuay to the taking in of the Newrje and from thence to dundalk being fyve myle distant from Blakstaffe where Continuing the space of seaven or eight weekes and vnderstanding that his wyfe and Children wer murthered did mak diligent searche for the triall therof and that of severall <A> Britishe that were Cumming in from the Irishe, amongst whom the forsaid Pawl Reed deponent did meete with one Iuane Griffeth who was his neightbour and had Lived in Blakstaffe aforsaid, of whom enquiring what becam of his wyfe and Children, The forsaid Iuane Greiffeth affirmed that the deponent his eldest sone with her owne mother and her husband Edward Greiffeth and one Dick ecclestone & one daughter of hers were all Cruellye murthered within the house of one Mr Browne in Blakstaffe, and the wyfe and tuo Children more of the deponent were left for dead being wounded, which murther was Committed said she by Art Makmarteen Patrick Mackmarteen James Mackmoilmak mackmachon & one drumme of ardee whose name shee knew not from whiche place of Murther the forsaid Iuane Greiffeth and one sone of <B> heres by providence had made an escape and also shee affirmed that the deponent his wyfe did scramble and Creip from the place of Murther with one Childe one her bake another at her fote wounded as they were and Cam to Glastrum whoe not being suffered to stay in the towne was enforced to Creeip to Dundalke thether going a myle from Glastrum schee mett with Henrye onell his kearn being his scowtes amongst whom were Edmund Buy ogowne whoe most Barbarouslje and Cruellje murthered the tuo Children and ther mother and that withe ane skeane and did throwe ane oulde feale dycke wpon ther Carcasses <was there> and that Terloch more Mackcardell and besyd this the deponent saithe that he heard by severall of the Britishe affirme that his wyfe and tuo Children wer murthered for certane within one myle of Henrye oneles of Glastrum Morover the deponent saithe that he being in

in Dublin at Michaellmas therafter he mett with one Johne Ramsay of the age of 10 or 12 yeares or therby, sone to Mr: Johne Ramsay, Minister of Ballerushe within one halfe myle of Blakstaffe who being kept amongst the Irishe wntill the Lammas after the insurrectione, tould that where he was in a Create after ther Cam in ane man whose name he knew not who sitting in the Create drew out a skean & said this is the skean that killed Marie Reed and saith he doe what I Canne I Cannot gett the mark of her blood affe the skean and that shee was the hardest to kill of any woman that ever he did see, the deponent did ask him what Lyk fellow he was he said he was an evill Cullored ffellow of ane down Cast Cownt{e}nance, the whiche the deponent affirmeth to be ane trew nott and mark of the visadge and Cowntenance of the aforsaid Edmund Buy ogowne all which the premissees the deponent deth testifie to haue been declarred by him as witnes his hand mark at Carrickferguse this 14th of May 1653:
