March the 2nd 1652
Mris Beer further examined saith That not long after the lord Cawfeild was murderd the person that murdered him one Hugh was taken and imprissond in the geoale of Ardmagh and had 3 men set sentinell vppon him, vizt an Englishman a Scotchman and an Irishman, but by means of the Jaol l er Geoale r the said Hugh that murderd the lord Cawfeild made his Escape and the Gaoller went along with him, vppon wich Sir Phelim O Neale Caused the 3 sentinells aforesaid to be imprisoned and threatend to hang them all, but and the Scotchman and Englishman were both hanged though many intreatys and means was used to the Contrary, but the Irishman was released, and the goaller that conveyed away the murderer aforesaid afterwards returned to his place of gaoller at Ardmagh and remaind their vnquestioned and vnmolested by the said Sir Phelim notwithstanding
